“Designed for a single mother and her son, this Eaton fire rebuild foregrounds sustainability, fire-resistance, and respect for Altadena’s historic building forms. The project responds to the client’s desire for a home that was safe and beautiful while also accommodating space to accommodate a multigenerational family. Grounded in a natural material palette, the project included exposed adobe walls, a corrugated metal roof, pigmented concrete floors, and hardwood interiors.
Clerestory windows beneath exposed wood rafters allow sunlight to fill the home, while stained-glass accents introduce moments of color and warmth. Inside, a central tiled hearth and a curved adobe kitchen island create a sculptural hub for family gatherings. A detached ADU allows the homes extended family to remain connected while also offering privacy and independence.”
