Bryce is an Architectural Designer with project experience that spans residential, commercial, and interior design. Raised in a family of designers and engineers, he grew up in suburban Massachusetts where he developed a keen awareness of the impact of the built environment on everyday life.

In 2015, Bryce moved to California and studied at the College of Environmental Design at UC Berkeley, where he twice received the honor of presenting his projects at Circus, the school’s annual showcase of exemplary student work. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture in 2019, and in the four years between graduation and relocating to Los Angeles, he worked alongside his college instructor and mentor Dominique Price at her boutique architecture and interiors studio in San Francisco.

At Terrain, Bryce continues to apply his skills to diverse architectural projects, aiming to enhance user experiences and create impactful spaces that resonate with their occupants. His design thinking is driven by his pursuit of innovative solutions to help create new possibilities of interaction and engagement.

Leah is a licensed architect in California, having earned her Master of Architecture from UT Austin in 2021 and her bachelor’s degree in political science from USC. After deciding that law school wasn’t for her, she pivoted to studying architecture, a field in which she felt she could have a more tangible impact on her community and environment. Leah has focused her work on the building sciences, looking for ways to reduce the negative impacts that the built environment has on the planet and its ecosystems. Upon earning her master’s degree, she moved to New York City, where she spent time managing construction projects and gaining hands-on building site experience.

At Terrain, she enjoys collaborating with coworkers and other trades to find optimal solutions to organizational and logistical problems. When she is not working, Leah enjoys studying languages and getting outside with her dog, Archie.

McKenzie approaches each project with an open mind and believes that flexibility is key to creativity and problem-solving. Since joining Terrain, she has worked on many creative office tenant improvement projects, each with its own unique challenges. She is interested in projects with specialized programs and finding solutions to challenging design problems.

Born and raised in the Midwest, McKenzie began her career in Kansas City. Her work experiences have ranged from small-scale improvements and historic restoration interventions to hospital facade design. At Terrain McKenzie’s projects have included commercial tenant improvements, off-grid residences, restaurants, and retail. Her broad experience, paired with the opportunity to work among diverse project teams, have reinforced her belief in the power of collaborative, discovery-based design.

McKenzie completed her Master of Architecture from The University of Kansas in 2016. While there she participated in a study abroad program in Paris, where she held an internship at Studio Odile Decq.

Adam is a licensed architect in both California and Oregon, and joined Terrain in 2018. With a Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly Pomona, he has helped execute a wide range of high-end projects from conception to completion, including world-class co-working spaces and cultural hubs. He is based in Portland and manages projects in the greater Los Angeles area and Pacific Northwest.

Over the years, Adam has worked closely with clients to develop unique and specialized programs. He has seen complex projects through the entitlements process and has successfully coordinated entire project teams through permitting and construction.

Adam approaches every project with the end-user in mind and has a passion for seeing ambitious projects through to completion. For him the most fascinating aspect of architecture is that every project comes with its own unique set of circumstances and opportunities, and he enjoys connecting a project’s context and distinct character to create something special every time.

Lucy is a Design Director and Project Designer at Terrain and a Senior Designer at Adobeisnotsoftware, the advocacy and education arm of the firm. Since joining the Terrain team following an internship in 2019, she has been a member of project teams on a wide range of projects, from Skydance Media in Santa Monica to off-grid adobe homes in the greater Joshua Tree area. Lucy has led design on several earthen projects in Southern California and assists in education and advocacy work with Adobeisnotsoftware in her spare time.

Lucy loves the story-telling capacity that the design process holds, and especially in the intersection of residential and earthen projects. Residential work has always been near and dear to her heart, as her parents ran a residential firm out of her childhood home growing up in St. Louis. She loves the intimacy and personality that is able to shine through in the design and expression of where people live, and finds adobe and earthen materials to be perfect for safe, resilient, and intimate homes.

Most of all, Lucy loves working at Terrain for the people she interacts with on a daily basis.

Ben Loescher, AIA, is an NCARB Certified Architect and a LEED Accredited Professional. He is the Founding Principal of Terrain (formerly LMA), where he provides leadership and guidance and has acted as Project Director on multiple projects, including Skydance Media, Warner Brothers, the Beats by Dre Headquarters, Illumination Entertainment, and Neuehouse.

Ben is an expert in the adaptive reuse of existing structures. He holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Michigan, a Master of Arts in Architectural History and Theory from The Architectural Association in London, a Bachelor of Environmental Design from Miami University, as well as a Certificate in Adobe Construction from Northern New Mexico College.

Ben founded Adobeisnotsoftware – the earthen education and advocacy arm of Terrain. He is the former President of The Earthbuilders Guild, Adobe in Action, and The Friends of Pioneertown, and acts as a Program Manager for the Center for Land Use Interpretation.

Rani is a licensed architect in California and Design Director at Terrain, with over 14 years of experience. She loves the journey of translating creative ideas into successful built environments – an effort that can only happen with high-level teamwork and communication. As projects can be long and complex, Rani is committed to guiding the process with technical knowledge, optimism, and a bit of fun and believes that earning the trust of clients and listening carefully to their needs is the foundation for making work that is unique and enduring.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from UCLA, she earned a master’s degree in Architecture from the University of Virginia where she was awarded a certificate in design achievement. Her early career focused on residential design that ranged from prefab assemblies to high-end custom construction. At Terrain, Rani’s projects have spanned across commercial, hospitality, institutional and residential typologies.

Outside the office, Rani serves as Director of the AWA+D Professional Development Committee, helping provide women with mentorship and resources to advance their careers in architecture. In her free time, she enjoys camping, hiking, road trips, and exploring beautiful places with her kids.

David is a licensed architect with over 14 years of experience and is a Project Manager at Terrain. He has a strong background in adaptive reuse and renovations of historic buildings, and has worked on many award-winning projects across many sectors. Throughout his experience, he has enjoyed building from the inherent character of existing buildings to give them new life. He has seen projects of all scales, ranging from small tenant improvements to multi-story hospitality, turning barns into community spaces, and historic manufacturing buildings into multi-family lofts.

David holds a leadership position on the AIALA Adaptive Resources Committee where he gleans from his past experience to help celebrate notable repurposed environments in the Los Angeles area. He is also an active member of the SoCal Chapter of the IIDA and the Los Angeles Build Out Alliance.

Outside of the office David builds furniture for himself and is an enthusiastic participant in recreational sports. He also enjoys attending Dodgers games and dreams of the day when he can finally catch a homerun ball.

Lauren is a Project Architect at Terrain and a Southern California native who focuses on the team’s desert projects. A passionate advocate for giving old buildings new life, she enjoys working with clients who share her enthusiasm. Before joining Terrain, she contributed to several successful renovation and adaptive reuse projects in and around Los Angeles. Additionally, she worked on numerous residential projects in Portland during the early part of her career. Lauren earned her M.Arch degree from Portland State where she was involved with local and international design-build projects with the school’s Center for Public Interest Design.

In her free time, Lauren can be found exploring Joshua Tree with her two rescue dogs, Darla and Renzo, or shopping for her next vintage furniture restoration project.

David joined Terrain in 2015 and is a licensed registered architect in California with 19 years of experience. As a Principal and Technical Director, he is closely involved with each project’s design, documentation, permitting and construction process.

David is a natural problem solver who thrives on challenges and exploring solutions. He is well versed in a range of building assemblies and has experience with most construction types, each with their specific code constraints. His adept understanding of structure and MEP trades is applied to solving both design and site challenges.

Since he joined Terrain, he has taken on a lead role on many adaptive reuse, tenant improvement, repositioning and ground-up projects. David has worked on projects ranging from 3,000 SF storefronts to 330,000 SF media campuses.

David received his Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2006.

Since joining in 2017, Jon has worked on a multitude of projects, each with their own complex requirements and goals. His experience with creative office tenant improvement projects include the multi-building repositioning project on Centinela Avenue, multiple buildings at the Santa Monica Business Park, OpenX’s US headquarters, Media Arts Lab, and several Atlas Capital office spaces. He has also worked on the headquarters and studios for well-known media and entertainment companies including Illumination Entertainment and Annapurna Pictures, as well as the award-winning AIA restaurant Damian DTLA. These projects have given him expertise in coordinating complicated, technical aspects of design and programming across multiple disciplines and consultants.

Jon received his Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2017. During his undergraduate program, he won a Vellum award for his design-build furniture, as well as Best In Show for projects in multiple studios including his thesis project. He spent a year studying at the Virginia Tech Washington-Alexandria Architecture Consortium and held an internship at the D.C. Office of Little Diversified Architectural Consulting.

As Director of Marketing and Business Development at Terrain, Michelle leads the firm’s marketing and growth initiatives, overseeing RFP responses, award submissions, social media strategy, and external communications. She joined the firm in 2022 and brings a decade of experience supporting creative teams and identifying opportunities for strategic growth. 

Originally from a small town in Ireland, Michelle draws upon her culture of hospitality and storytelling, bringing a natural warmth and humor to cultivating meaningful relationships across the design and real estate industries. She studied textile design at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, graduating with first-class honors and receiving high commendation for her undergraduate thesis. Her interest in material culture (and a very tangential connection) ultimately landed her a job at Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects in Los Angeles in 2016.

Michelle serves on CoreNet Global’s Los Angeles Committee, where she contributes her creative and organizational skills to sponsorship efforts and the production of successful industry events. Outside of work, she enjoys live music and spending time with her husband and two rescue dogs, Peach and Mabel.
