Fresno County has a long history of earthen construction, and until 2006 was home to the world’s largest commercial adobe manufacturer. In an effort to develop an earthen-alternative to the standard-ADU-plan program offered in Fresno County, this home is a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom adobe build designed with the intention of allowing the residents to age-in-place.

Created as a pilot project, the design balances the various aesthetic qualities of adobe, exposing it in some areas and finishing it with clay plaster in others. This home references historic adobe building styles while recognizing Fresno’s critical need for affordable, infill housing.
