In 2014 Associates Purchasing, a nationally-known furniture dealership, sought an outpost in downtown Los Angeles. In collaboration with the AP team, we designed the space to be a functioning showroom and a flexible open work environment. Previously compartmentalized, the public and collaborative areas such as the pantry, conference room and resource library, were joined to become the heart of the environment.
A limited material palette was used to define zones and complements the existing brick and concrete of the historic Pac Mutual Building. The entry sequence features a reconfigurable gallery area that can highlight a line of furniture, tell a story, or be customized for an event. Porous walls clad in custom wood pegboard provide a sense of privacy without closing off rooms, and could be used as feature display walls for materials.
