To serve the area’s rapidly growing number of visitors, Terrain was charged with creating significant additions to an existing National Register listed historic hotel in a manner that would honor the sites legacy and blend seamlessly into the existing community. With a scheme intended to convey a small and intimate scale, the project included 47 new guest rooms, a public restaurant, new retail buildings, a wellness spa and a barn to host small gatherings and celebrations.
Designed to minimize environmental impact and improve the site’s quality as habitat, the structures are organized in clusters that minimize development area and privilege open space and native plant areas. New buildings of earth and wood honor vernacular building forms and materials, and are the first to meet the requirements of the communities new historic district design guidelines.
