Team One, a premium branding agency within the Publicis Groupe, one of the world’s largest marketing and communications companies, partnered with Terrain to reimagine its workplace for a new era of hybrid work.
Through a series of meetings and working sessions, we identified the client’s core values, preferred workflows, and opportunities to improve deficiencies in its current offices. Central to these topics was the lasting impact of post-pandemic work habits. In response, our approach focused on creating highly flexible “neighborhoods” that support both collaboration and focused, independent work.
Three primary areas were designated for focus: workplace neighborhoods, an expanded communal gathering zone, and an enhanced All-Agency space. Each neighborhood features a mix of enclosed huddle rooms, new benching-style workstations, open huddle tables, and private phone booths, encouraging movement and flexibility throughout the day based on individual or team needs.
One of the project’s core challenges was fitting a growing workforce into a more compact footprint. To achieve this, workstations were thoughtfully designed with built-in planter box dividers, offering privacy while integrating biophilic elements. Drawing inspiration from the original space, two tones of plywood were used – one natural and unfinished and the other a warm walnut was used for new built-in furniture settings, including the workstations. These material choices offered a cost-effective way to introduce authentic wood while visually distinguishing each neighborhood and adding warmth to the otherwise industrial interior.
A new central and interior coffee area was created with four full-sized trees, each integrated with custom millwork seating to provide additional drop-in workspaces and casual seating for breaks within a sheltered and intimate setting.
